Gornal Athletic 2-0 Lutterworth Athletic
Saturday 25th October 2025
Lutterworth Athletic were beaten 2–0 by Gornal Athletic as the hosts underlined their strong league form with a composed performance in front of a 211 strong crowd.
Manager Ben Steane made several changes to the starting XI from the previous away fixture against Leicester St Andrews.
Coming into the side were Abdul Bambah, Michael Blair, Sebastian Sam, and Steane himself, adding experience and balance across the pitch.
Meanwhile, Scott Smith retained his place in the team up front, whilst Blake Kindred and Zack Knight dropped to the bench.
Facing one of the league’s in-form sides, Atho showed resilience and an attacking threat, creating clear cut chances in the first half to take the lead.
Goalless at half time, the breakthrough came for the hosts in the 54th minute through Traevay Wright, who was in the right place at the right time in the box to finish from close range and give Gornal the advantage.
Lutterworth worked hard to stay in the contest, but chances were limited against a well-organised opposition.
Gornal extended their lead when Brad Ward added a second on 60 minutes, and despite a determined effort, Atho were unable to find a way back into the match, as the hosts saw out the game to secure victory.
The result marks a fourth consecutive defeat for Lutterworth Athletic, but attention quickly turns to an opportunity to respond in cup action.
Next up is a Midland Football League Cup tie at home against Allexton & New Parks on Tuesday 28th October, where Atho will be aiming to bounce back.
Thank you to all supporters who made the trip to Dudley, your continued backing is greatly appreciated.
