Lutterworth Athletic continued their excellent home form with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Wednesfield, making it three home wins on the bounce and further underlining the Atho’s growing momentum at Ausden Clark Arena.
In another competitive Midland Football League Division One encounter, Lutterworth started brightly and looked sharp in possession, setting the tone with an energetic opening spell.
The breakthrough arrived after 22 minutes when Abdul Bambah, making a forward run from full back, found space and finished well to give Atho a deserved lead and reward their positive start.
The advantage, however, was short-lived. Wednesfield responded quickly, levelling the match just minutes later through Sebi Fyfield, to ensure the sides went into the break all square after an evenly contested first half.
The second half saw a noticeable shift in control, with Lutterworth raising the tempo and asserting themselves in possession.
The hosts created better and more frequent chances, pinning Wednesfield back and forcing them to defend deep for long spells.
A golden opportunity nearly arrived when Adam Shaw was picked out by a dangerous cutback from Sam Lockley, but the forward was unable to convert from close range.
Moments later, however, Atho would not be denied.
Lockley was played through on goal and, despite pressure from a covering defender, showed great composure to slot past the goalkeeper in the 79th minute and restore Lutterworth’s lead.
From there, Atho managed the closing stages well, showing maturity and organisation to see out the game and secure another important three points as they look to build momentum going into the back end of the season.
It was a strong all-round team performance, built on patience, control and resilience, and another positive step forward as Lutterworth continue to build consistency and confidence.
Next up for Atho is a home fixture against Allexton & New Parks to Ausden Clark Arena on Saturday 24th January 2026.
We hope to see you there as the team look to extend their impressive home run.
